Are you a new-ish member of the League? We’ve seen a surge in membership lately, but many newcomers haven’t yet taken some important first steps to make the most of their membership in the League of Women Voters. Here’s what we suggest:
-
Come to New Member Orientation (on Zoom) Feb. 9 from 6:30-7:30 pm. You’ll get an overview of our League and tips on using our terrific website.
-
Visit that website, lwvclarkcounty.org. Many longtime members still aren’t familiar with all the information and resources it holds.
-
Come to our monthly membership meetings, typically on the second Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. It’s the best way to meet other Leaguers and get updated on the latest happenings and volunteer opportunities.

You can read more about orientation and the website in this issue, including how to get help logging in if you need it.
A very special “membership meeting” is coming up March 6. In lieu of our regular monthly meeting, we’re gathering at the Clark County Historical Museum for a Women’s History Month celebration featuring state League president Karen Crowley as guest speaker (and some other fun guests). Get the details inside, and mark your calendar!
In this issue, you’ll also find opportunities to volunteer at high school and college career days; learn how to testify before boards and committees, and hear from the experts what it’s like to run for office yourself.
Finally, consider getting trained as an election observer. Several elections are coming up this year, including the November general election, and our observers have an important role to play. There’s more information in this issue.

LWVUS urges Congress to investigate ICE, CBP
LWVUS has joined the League of United Latin American Citizens and Common Cause in calling on Congress to investigate the use of force by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agencies. LWVUS, along with many civil rights organizations, then signed a letter drafted by the League of United Latin American Citizens following the shootings in Minneapolis and Portland.
